Everyone who has experienced surfing in their life has agreed that its truly a remarkable experience, much like underwater diving or mountain climbing. To learn surfing one has to go to an experienced instructor. Surf lessons begin with learning how to position the board and lie and stand on it. This is done on flat ground or the beach before the student attempts to go in the water. Once in the water the student is taught how to spot a correct wave that is suitable for surfing, he/she then begins with other lessons.
Surfing is the closest anyone can get to feeling really free. The many surfers who have proved their mettle are now training the next generation of surfers. Surfing is predominantly a male sport, but has seen a lot of women take it up is the past two decades. Going to summer camps now a days is a great way to learn surfing, one place known for having great surf instructors and beaches for surfing beginners is Costa Rica. Knowing to swim is a key factor to learn how to surf. The right age to learn to surf is twelve and above. In Costa Rica there are various companies that gives high quality surf lessons.
There is another surf learning option for people who live far inland and away from the ocean. Some water parks also give surf lessons. These places have an indoor pool which generates a wave that is suitable to learn how to surf. Though, nothing can beat the experience of an ocean in a tropical paradise such as Costa Rica. The reason why the ocean is considered the best place to surf is because it generates the right wave size and enough force for surfing while being in contact with Mother Nature. As stated before, surf lessons are also held at surfing camps. The idea behind teaching surfing to kids and adults is that they take it up and it becomes a more accessible sport for everyone.
Some parents prefer to send their children only to a girls camp. These camps also give surf lessons, where only girls can learn from female instructors. Mostly, surfing equipment is available around beaches that are popular with surfing. Equipment ranging from surfing boards to wet suits and swimming shorts to safety bands. The most expensive equipment in surfing is the surf board. These boards are available in different types of shapes that cater to different types of surfers. A wet suit is an important aspect of surfing during cold climates. It protects the surfer from hypothermia. Its not necessary during summer however while being in a Costa Rica surf trip, water temperature is not an issue, Costa Rica has warm water and good waves all year long.
Surfing has changed since it was first invented. Thanks to years of experience and technical knowhow, board designs have change to cater to different types of surfing styles. There are long boards and short boards. Long boards were used by people for more stability. These are the very first boards that were used for surfing. They are longer, wider, thicker and rounder at the nose providing a solid base to stand and surf. Their origins are more primitive based. Short boards are the ones majority of the surfers used today they are pointed at the nose and designed for speed and maneuverability.
